A good friend of mine is going to Royal Ascot racecourse today, which has led me to think about appropriate raceday clothing and the dramatic hats.
Bizarrely, I am more interested in what the ladies will wear, rather than how well the horses and jockeys do in their particular stakes.
Just reading the different style guides for each enclosure excites me as there is the opportunity to wear a hat, headpiece or fascinator - giving a lady so much choice and the change to be creative.
The theme this year is British and there have been some brilliant efforts from Union Jack flag outfits to bright floral efforts. This pretty play on the Scottish Tartan with a hint of My Fair Lady being my favourite. Thankfully, this fashionable display of millinery distracts race-goers, and similarly betters, from the scandals that have hit horse racing recently.
Earlier this month, rumours of offshore gambling and doping shook the equine community.
However, if the Queen endorses such a traditional and British event, then let's hope the fashion race continues.
